Tissues - Pan Daijing (2022)

I’ve traditionally not bothered with music that’s arranged as a super-long single track. As I’ve said, I’ve been kind of scattershot in my approach, listening to bits and pieces of songs and then moving on. So it hasn’t made much sense to me to try to listen to, say, a single 54 minute piece of music.

The new me is trying, though. So when this came up, from an artist I knew, I figured I’d try. And I was definitely rewarded. It’s beautiful and scary and creepy and beautiful again, in cycles.

tracks i liked

well, it’s all one track, at least on Spotify, and it builds on itself, but for some interesting sonics you could skip to

around 5:00 - tuvan-sounding vocals

around 10:00 - some excellent bass drops into the mix. It made my scalp tingle.

around 19:00 - bells and soprano vocals

around 25:00 - some terrifying machine music

around 35:00 - WTF?

around 45:00 - some processed piano that wasn’t there before.
