Rabbit Habits - Man Man (2008)

Another on my list of “un-google-able band names.” You might listen to this record and think, “Damn these guys are weird.” All I can tell you is that this is from after they went pop.

There’s a healthy dose of Zappa and Beefheart in with cabaret, avant garde jazz, and whatever else seems to occur to them.

Underneath all that, though, the songs are melodic and structurally rock-solid. A great and under-appreciated band.

Tracks I Liked

Hurly / Burly - a little corny, a little Zorn-y

Big Trouble - starts with a New Orleans funeral dirge, then turns into something Tom Waits had a nightmare about

Easy Eats or Dirty Doctor Galapagos - sublimely bizarre and catchy
