Madar - Jan Garbarek, Anouar Brahem, Shaukat Hussain (1992)

note: starting the embed from track 2 because, while the first track is quite good, it fades in so slowly you might wonder if there’s anything there at first

Garbarek is a name that keeps coming up in jazz and world music everywhere you look. He spent his entire career collaborating to bring musicians together from all over the globe and in all kinds of genres.

Here he works with Brahem, himself a noted innovator and crosser-over of genres who plays an Oud and blends Arabic classical with jazz.

The third leg of the trio is Saukat Hussain, a master of the Tabla drums. He shows off his skills here at the end of his career.

The record is melodic material from both original compositions and Norwegian folk melodies, adapted to the Norway-to-Tunisia-to-Pakistan blend of methods.
