How Will I Live Without A Body? - Loma (2024)

Ideated from: some recent releases I’ve been spinning (tho this one came out in June)

There just isn’t a good way to categorize this album.

I’m a huge fan of Jonathan Meiburg, both leading Shearwater and as one third of Loma. The copy on the Bandcamp page is definitely worth a read. It tells the tale of the end and rebirth of Loma. You can hear it in the much more sophisticated sounds on this record, and I think you hear an increase in singer Emily Cross’s contribution to the overall feel.

The album is heartbreaking and thought-provoking, about loss and remembering and celebrating and a lot of other things. The music is understated and elegant, with only the occasional hints of the more haunting sounds they found on their first two albums.

Tracks I Liked

Arrhythmia - not particularly arhythmic, but a great track

I Swallowed A Stone - seems like a build-and-release song that never actually releases. Amazing lyrics

Pink Sky - smooth and calming
