Wild Light - 65daysofstatic (2013)

I hadn’t come across this band until this album. I would have shortly after this because they did the soundtrack to the No Man’s Sky video game, which I was briefly fixated on.

This is part electronic beat music and part expansive instrumental rock, with a lot of terse and anxious atmosphere.

buzzy synths and other sounds swoosh in and drop out. Drum patterns appear seemingly out of nowhere. Crescendos crash out of the murk and then retreat again.

It’s a delightfully off-kilter album that I’ve gone back to often.

Tracks I Liked

Heat Death Inifnity Splitter - an introductory adagio blast of synths

The Undertow - calmer and more melodic than a lot of other material

Unmake the Wild Light - oppressive bass grind alternates with gorgeous high-end guitars
