Animal Choir - Her Name Is Calla (2019)

This is an album that just keeps coming up for me, even though I wouldn’t have said I was a massive fan. Spotify suggests it, and a lot of people I read and listen to talk about how much they love it.

HNIC’s previous albums (O_o) are intense but grounded in calmer and rootsier sounds, imo. This one sounds much more confrontational and demanding from the start. Beauty and menace coexist and take turns in the spotlight.

The band broke up after this album, and there hasn’t been a whole lot of material from any of the individual members that I’m aware of. If this is truly the last time we hear HNIC it’s an excellent summation.

Tracks I Liked

Swan - They start off sounding like a Tool tribute band and it works great

The Dead Rift - anthemic rock
