Atlas of Green - Dialect (2024)

Spotify had to remind me that I quite liked Dialect’s 2021 record, Under-Between, so I can’t say I’ve just discovered him. But this was a wonderful find in the new releases from an artist I hadn’t remembered.

Here he gets great mileage out of sounds that sometimes sound childish but always fit together so well. Bloops and bleeps like a kids’ toy synth get shot through with static, field recording sounds, smooth bass, and slickly programmed drums.

The overall feel is nostalgic and sepia-toned, not just for the music but also in the equipment and recording.
