Little Big - Aaron Parks (2018)
Parks had been around for a while, and on records I’d heard. But I didn’t know his name until this release.
The quartet features Parks’ excellent, cogent piano along with counterpoints from guitarist Greg Tuohey (to such an extent that sometimes it’s not clear which one is leading). There’s a ton of build-and-release energy, and luscious soundscapes that paint a lovely picture.
It’s exhilarating: tuneful and forceful, with vocabulary of jazz, rock, and groove.
