Flamingo Tower - Monde UFO (2025)
spinning some of the amazing batch of new releases from the last month or two
I think it’s telling that we don’t really have a name for what is obviously an emerging new genre. I’m gonna start calling it metamodernism because I think it fits with a lot of the ideas around processing the reality of the 21st century. See what is literally my favorite Youtube video of all time from Thomas Flight on the effects of this new metamodern aesthetic in film, but it applies to music just as much.
The effortless stylistic drift–like you’re scanning channels on XM–is a common experience of this generation of musicians and composers who’ve grown up in the era of everything ever being available all the time.
Strap in and enjoy the ride. We’ll make sense of it eventually.
