Horses - Patti Smith (1975)

ideated from: a favorite album that starts with “H” (yeah, we’re doing this again)

Patti Smith in the 70s was just impossibly cool. Like, cooler than you could ever hope to be, and it felt like she wasn’t even trying.

This record is every strain of outsider music for the next 50 years all rolled into one small explosive device.

Tracks I Liked

Gloria - I will someday make a list of the greatest opening lines in music history, and spoiler alert, brother: “Jesus died for somebody’s sins, but not mine” is at the top. An impressionistic reinterpretation of the Van Morrison song, without really being a cover

Birdland - a brilliant novel packed into a song

My Generation - there are different versions of the record out there, but make sure you find one that has John Cale joining in to rip the living shit out of the Who.
