2112 - Rush (1976)

Ideated from: a favorite album that starts with a “2”

I might have talked about my friend Jack before in this space. He was a youth group worker at my church when i was 12, 13, 14 years old. He was probably only about 15 years older, and was a huge music nerd as well. We bonded over that shared obsession, and he shared with me some of his encyclopedic knowledge (and his large and fanatical collection of 70s rock records). I still listen to a lot of things that Jack first played for me, but chief among them is this record right here.

Rush would have entered my consciousness at some point, although I’m glad it was this early, piercing, rocking version that was the first I heard of them.

Tracks I Liked

The title track is, of course, a side-long sci fi epic about a future where the power of music is rediscovered. It’s the main feature

Something For Nothing - The second side isn’t quite as cohesive, although the closer is one of the band’s best songs, imo.
