Kick - INXS (1987)

The band had broken out of the Australian scene into the larger American and UK industries with their previous record, and the pressure was on to create something big for the follow-up.

They delivered.

The funk and wiriness of their early work is toned down into much more radio friendly shapes, but still full of energy and joie de vivre.

Michael Huchence may never have recorded a bad vocal track, but they’re particularly on point for this one. There’s always something new to hear and enjoy on this record, no matter how many times I’ve listened.

Tracks I Liked

Guns in the sky - modern life was rubbish in 1987 as well

Devil Inside - wicked guitar riff, great song

Never Tear Us Apart - top-notch classic. Not enough sax solos in modern pop music.

Kick - wherein the lads try to cover an otis redding song while still collecting a publishing royalty
