Lux - Rosalía (2025)

Things I really like:

  • songs that switch between multiple languages
  • music about the lived experience of faith
  • musical auteurs who can execute a unique vision
  • basically anything with Rosalia’s name on it

So this is to say that I’m super into this.

Her multi-lingual account of the lives of female saints and other notable women, this is a widescreen project in every sense. The music is often orchestral, although there are plenty of more pop-oriented features.

The music lets layers of orchestral pop, latin rhythm, and dancefloor drive melt into each other. The result is a dreamy landscape that always seems to serve up exactly the mood she wants to achieve.

This is clearly one that I’m going to have to sit with for a while. But my first impressions are that this is an amazing piece of work. Her celebrity popstar persona might make you not notice what a visionary and forceful artist she is. Hopefully this will help bring that out.
