Slow Water - Stephan Crump (2024)
This is wonderful.
Inspired by a book which is now definitely on my reading list, Crump comments on Man’s relationship to rivers and bodies of water, as well as the hubris of thinking we can control them.
These themes are explored through a combo of Crump’s bass playing joined with vibraphone, strings, and brass. The music is understated and lovely, but always intelligent. Bits of melody meld with ambient sound sculpture and abstract forms.
A really amazing piece of work.
