13 Songs - Fugazi (1989)
Ideated from: a favorite album that starts with a “1”
If you were an early Fugazi fan, you might know that this is actually a concatentation of their first two EPs, Fugazi and Margin Walker. By the time I’d heard of them a few years later, this collection was more or less the first Fugazi album.
The non-descript title is appropriate for a band that was obsessed with authenticity as Fugazi was. They made sure their records and concerts never got too pricey and released their music on their own label.
The music is singular, combining punk with other underground sounds and a lot of harmonically complex window dressing, then turning everything up to eleven.
Tracks I Liked
Bulldog Front - the first Fugazi song I heard, I think.
Give Me The Cure - a slightly dissonant pre-chorus resolves into a great refrain
Suggestion - a nasty, honest lyric and a great dynamic delivery
