Down The Road Wherever - Mark Knopfler (2018)

I said to myself that I don’t give enough time to records anymore. I scan through a few seconds for something that catches my attention, and then I’m on to something else. So I started this record, didn’t really like the opener “Trapper Man” much, but i said, “no, i’m listening. I’m committed.”

Process over results, I guess. It’s a pretty mediocre AAA record. Knopfler has written better songs. While he’s a great guitarist, he’s not exactly stretching himself here. Also, the shortest track is over 4 minutes long, with most clocking 5 or 6 minutes. There just aren’t enough ideas here to support that. While I did force myself to listen through (i might have skipped a few because I was listening the “deluxe” edition and I didn’t know where the original track list ended) I ended up bailing early on nearly every track.

Good On You Son - has a dire straits feel to it, with a shuffle and a slightly nasty lyric

Nobody Does That - old white dude channels 70s Stevie Wonder, but if anyone can do it, Knopfler can
