Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - Spoon (2007)
Ideated from: a favorite album that starts with ‘G’. I think we’re done with these for now.
Spoon albums kind of blend together in my mind, but that’s more of a testament to their consistency than to them not being interesting. This is a great example of what they’ve done for 20 years. Catchy melodies, driving beats, tight production, all with just the right amount of restraint vs bombast that is a hallmark of so much of the 00s. It’s sleek and lean, and when you do get extra layers of sound from horns or piano, it’s noticeable exactly because they don’t over-do anything.
Tracks I Liked
The Underdog - a genuine run at a pop tune, and it’s pretty great.
Don’t You Evah - the best guitar solo on the record, but it’s not exactly a hotly contested title.
My Little Japanese Cigarette Case - I have no idea what it means, but I’m here for it.
