Set My Heart On Fire Immediately - Perfume Genius (2020)

I’m late to the party on Mike Hadreas, aka Perfume Genius. This is the first record I’ve heard of his. It’s a perfectly mature and balanced record: fragile, vulnerable, fearless, seething, beautiful.

There’s a sense of security to this, to let you know that you’re not alone in what you’re going through. In a lot of places, he achieves that with oblique but poignant snippets of emotional openness that nail the mood even if they don’t go into much detail.
