Animals - Pink Floyd (1977)
One of the classic Pink Floyd albums, although maybe the one least listened to. A lot of people remember Floyd as a massive arena rock band, and they were, for sure. But here they delve into more proggy territory. This is them stretching out into longer pieces and difficult lyrical concepts. Musically, you get the sound of guys working together in a room, which I always like for the authenticity. For all I know, the “authenticity” was multi-tracked and added in post, but it still sounds great.
The concept is that there are three kinds of people in the world: dogs, pigs, and sheep. Orwell’s Animal Farm, I guess, but also a little of Roger Waters’ signature grumpiness about the human condition.
