Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! - Devo (1978)
Ideated from: August albums
Art punk that is hard to determine how serious it is, and how much it’s just taking the piss. Devo were a much more interesting band than the handful of hits and oddball videos that people usually know them for. This first album kind of laid down the blueprint for new wave music of the early 80s: nervous and edgy, with a punk rock drive but a more accessible sound.
Edit Produced by Brian Eno, which I didn’t know until I just updated this.
bonus: a podcast about how golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez ended up on the cover
Tracks I Liked
Uncontrollable Urge - Just in case you didn’t think they could rock from hearing some of the 80s singles.
Space Junk - kind of sounds like if The Clash were nerds.
Jocko Homo - pretty good stuff
