Guitar In The Space Age - Bill Frisell (2014)

Ideated from: my best-of-month lists for October over the years. also on the Oct 2014 list: Mark Lanegan, Ex Hex, and Charlie Haden with Jim Hall live

Bill Frisell is an elegant guitarist who plays all sorts of things. Americana, jazz, and straight country are typical, but he’s not above more ambient and experimental sounds, or jazzy punk. Here he is doing a laid back take on a set of (mostly) instrumental hits from the 50s and 60s.

He has some great interaction with the rest of the band. I’d say he’s clearly enjoying himself, but I can’t really think of anything Frisell has done where he doesn’t sound like that.
