Dark Matter - Moses Boyd (2020)

I don’t know if “nu jazz” is the right term, but there are a ton of artists (often from London, but all over the place) who are mixing jazz and electronics with soul and African rhythms and doing it with considerable style. Moses Boyd is one of the best, and this is one of the clearest statements he’s made with this new-ish musical style.

It’s non-stop motion, with beats that run from funky to cool and all kinds of decoration. A real instant classic for me.

Is “Stranger Than Fiction” a good track?

This got me thinking about how many songs I could think of titled “stranger than fiction.” For the next few days I’m going to write up records with a track called that. One reasonable question to ask is whether or not the Stranger Than Fiction track on this record is a highlight. In this case: definitely; the STF here is one of the record’s best tracks

Tracks I Liked

Stranger Than Fiction - slightly ominous, then eventually it soars

BTB - Sounds like fellow scenesters Sons Of Kemet, with some great guitar.

Dancing In The Dark - heavy and atmospheric

2 Far Gone - non-stop groove
