Dusk - JR Bohannon (2019)
There’s a lot of common ground between minimalism and bluegrass, imo. Both are built on repeating patterns that start to cascade over each other, creating something that’s more than the sum of its parts. While there isn’t a ton of straight-up bluegrass on this record, you can definitely hear the influence.
It doesn’t take long before you’re completely immersed, and the fact that you’re just hearing an acoustic guitar doesn’t really even occur to you much (hard to tell if he overdubs himself or plays it all live. He’s either a Richard Thompson-level guitar genius or a Zoe Keating-level signal processing genius. Doesn’t really matter which to me).
Occasional bass by Luke Stewart of Irreversible Entanglements (and countless other projects) and the the final jam also features drummer Greg Fox (o_O).
