George Jones Sings Bob Wills - George Jones (1962)

Ideated from: the year in music, 1962

Jones was the sound of country in the 60s, one of the genre’s biggest artists in his prime. But if there’s one thing the country & western industry and its consumers value, it’s continuity and history. Thus, a huge artist of the 60s records a collection of music from 30s and 40s western swing pioneer Bob Wills.

At a time when Country was getting invaded by rock and R&B, this is a window back to when Wills pioneered a mix of country with ballroom-friendly jazz and vocal pop.

It sounds more like Jones than Wills, from what I know. But it’s fun to hear his band swing, and his voice is always great.
