This Year I Remembered...
Like I mentioned yesterday, this project has really helped me find joy in just having great music on again. It made me realize that even things I’d listened to a ton in recent years were going into my ears as sonic carpet, something to keep the silence away rather than really enjoying it.
So shout out to these older artists, whom I’d listened to a lot over the years but managed to find something new in them by re-listening more intentionally.
Voodoo - D’Angelo
Fresh off his weird, sort-of-appearance in the final season of Atlanta. A great record that I didn’t appreciate nearly enough when it was new.
Nine Types Of Light - TV On The Radio
Excellent art rock that evokes a specific time and place in my life.
God Shuffled His Feet - Crash Test Dummies
Lots of great memories had this record playing in the background
Ruby Vroom - Soul Coughing
What memories I have left of this era of my life were soundtracked in no small part by this record.
Copper Blue - Sugar
Still one of my all time faves
Below The Bassline - Ernest Ranglin
A wonderful random find
Hard Normal Daddy - Squarepusher
What the future sounded like in 1997
Oh Mercy - Bob Dylan
A standout record for a guy with a career full of standouts
Horses - Patti Smith
Everything.
Mercury - American Music Club
Easy to lose track of, but never easy to forget
