Anti - Rihanna (2016)

Ideated from: a Black History Month reminder that black artists largely built the modern world of music

One of the threads that runs through my writing here traces artists who broke out by being fairly conventional, and then branched off into their own creative direction once they were successful. If you can’t put Rihanna on that list, it’s only because she was innovative and eyebrow-raising from the beginning. But especially with this album, she made a statement that an artist can only make with a lot of experience and a lot of latitude.
