I Put A Spell On You - Nina Simone (1965)
Ideated from: a Black History Month reminder that black artists largely built the modern world of music
A pretty non-controvertial set of songs from an otherwise confrontational civil rights activist. She was maybe trying to reinforce her gifts as a performer and interpreter to calm her audience a bit.
Whatever she was doing, she was in fine form in the 60s. Blues and soul, with a smattering of jazz songbook sensibility.
