Stand - Sly & The Family Stone (1969)

Ideated from: a Black History Month reminder that black artists largely built the modern world of music

Fusing the San Francisco psychedelic revolution with funk and soul, these guys created something unique.

I think a lot of people talk about the album that followed this one, There’s A Riot Goin On, as their best record, but I find it to be a depressing dysfuntionally angry record.

This one, on the other hand, has a lot of their biggest songs and is a lot more interesting musical hybrid between the worlds of black and white music in the late 60s.

Tracks I Liked

I Want To Take You Higher - great tune with a great bass groove that rumbles even in my earbuds because of the grit in the recording.

Somebody’s Watching You - this could easily have been any random white guy pop hit from the early 60s until you hit the wild, fluid guitar solo.

Everyday People - maybe their most recognizable song, for good reason
