Interface - Heldon (1977)

Ideated from: The Sevens, releases from years ending in 7.

A French band that was basically doing post-rock 20 years before Tortoise. It’s wild and meandering, with lots of what I often describe as weird mechanial funk that comes from German industrial and kosmiche stuff, plus a lot of guitar shredding in the Robert Fripp style. There’s a moog, because it’s the 70s, but it really fits in well with the distant-roar guitar sound.

Not for the casual listener, probably, but I really dug this.

Tracks I Liked

Jet Girl - I would love to hear a rapper sample this. Perhaps a bit longer than it needs to be at 9 minutes, but a great chill-but-slightly-paranoid soundtrack

Bal-a-fou - a freeform jam
