Sour Soul - Ghostface Killah & BADBADNOTGOOD (2015)

Right after the first wave of Wu Tang solo projects dropped in the mid-90s, I don’t think most people would have bet that, 30 years on, Ghostface would have been the most commercially and artistically successful. If you did bet on him, you got a good payout. But we’ve all won with a string of solid records from the guy.

This one is a collab with Toronto nu jazz outfit BADBADNOTGOOD (my chronic problem with authority always bristles when I’m expected to type an artist’s name in weird ways, but today I’m letting it happen).

The beats aren’t particularly jazzy, but they do drive hard, and Ghostface always delivers lyrically.

Tracks I Liked

Six Degrees - is there a modern rapper who sounds more like he should be on a 90s Wu Tang record than Danny Brown? I don’t know what it is.
