Think I'm Going Weird - Various (1966-1968)
Ideated from: I have a playlist of all the random comps of obscure music I find lying around. Going through some of them
The subtitle explains the intent a little better: “Original Artefacts From The British Psychedelic Scene (1966-1968)”
The Psych movement, especially in British rock, was a separate thread of musical development that gets lost in the bigger terms like “Prog rock” or “British Invasion.”
For a moment these bands got a lot of notice, but the only ones that survived were the ones that morphed into a different sound once the market for psychedelic pop was saturated and burned out. Since I love dropping book recs, here’s a favorite of mine about a psych band.
All the streaming versions seem to have truncated track lists that omit more well-known bands like The Kinks, Traffic, and The Who, probably because of streaming rights issues. So this streaming version is even more dedicated to obscure tracks than the vinyl release.
Forget all the details, tho. There are a ton of great tracks on here, many of which I had no idea even existed.
Tracks I Liked
The Alan Brown’s rocket blast version of All Along The Watchtower
The surfy proto punk sounds of One Step Beyond’s Scene Of The Lemon Queen
The hypnotic track Green, by The Lion & The Fish
