Diesel and Dust - Midnight Oil (1987)

I don’t know how exactly to express the opposite intent of my “quality or nostalgia” tag. This is one that I listened to as a kid, didn’t have a lot of appreciation for, and then came back to it in the modern day and was blown away.

A year or two later, I’d be into INXS and U2’s War album, and not long after that I’d discover REM. This fits perfectly into that underground / college rock era of pre-gunge-revolution indie rock. It was great for the moment, but I wasn’t part of the moment right then.

Tracks I Liked

Dreamworld - One of the best rock songs of its era

The Dead Heart - an urgent and haunting tune
