Dancin' With Nobody But You Babe - Clarence Reid (1969)

Reid was a songwriter of some note, and only made a handful of records under his own name. This is one of them, and is pretty good. The band is tight, and they get a lot of volume on some really fun tunes.

With fairly obscure soul records like this, I always have a hard time with why I recognize bits of melodies. Are they sampled somewhere? Another version of this song by someone else? Are they just ripping off something and hoping nobody notices? Each are about equally possible.

The guy has made much more music as an act called Blowfly, which… picture something like Weird Al doing the popular sounds of the moment, but every song is about graphic sex. It’s funny but not something I’m even gonna link to here.

Tracks I Liked

Nobody But You Babe - the best tune here, with one of those horn charts I’d swear I recognize from somewhere.

Get Back - a Beatles rave-up recorded when the song was practically a current hit
