Salsa Y Control - Lebron Brothers (1969)

I didn’t realize until very recently (ok, maybe 30 minutes ago) that the term “salsa” is a 20th century invention that captures the mix of pan-latin music that had started to cross-pollinate by mid-century. I had always sort of figured it was Cuban music, which is definitely represented. But the influences from all over Latin America make it distinct from just Cuban music.

These guys were large figures on the salsa scene in New York. They have great vocals and dance beats for days.

Tracks I Liked

Piensalo Bien - glorious rhythm, gorgeous harmonies

Estoy Loco - a great ballad

Sabor Tipico - “typical flavor” is pretty accurate

Makin' A Move

Better get it in your head
