Hung Down Head - Lowell Fulson (1970)

This was released in 1970 but is a compliation of Fulson’s string of high-profile singles for Chess Records in the 50s.

Fulson would have a lot of different sounds over the decades he performed, but in this era it was the west coast style of post-war R&B: not too electric, with piano and sax featuring prominently. He was inspired by T-Bone Walker after settling in the Bay Area when his military service was up, and it shows in the groovy confidence and the lyrical guitar lines.
