Into The Pandemonium - Celtic Frost (1987)

Another band, like Voivod, who I would have loved if I’d heard them in the 80s. As it happened I didn’t discover them til much later.

We’ll go with “avant garde” to show that nobody really knows what this is. Thrashy and underground, yes, with bits of doom and proto-black metal. But also proggy guitar accents, weird tonalities, string sections, Ramones-style backing vocals in places. FFS they open the record with a Wall Of Voodoo new wave tune.

There’s a little of everything you could hope for on here, and it’s all pretty great.
