Jefe De Jefes - Los Tigres Del Norte (1997)

Mexican “regional music,” which I gather just means the northern regions for some reason, is full of “corridos,” storytelling ballads. Los Tigres specialized in “narco-corridos” which, as you might imagine, are about life in and around the drug trade.

The music is specifically a style called norteño, heavily influenced by polka-style folk song and a fair amount of western swing.

It’s brilliant.
