Hope - Kevin Hays and Lionel Loueke (2017)
Loueke is a jazz guitarist, but not really in the same way most jazz guitarists are. He manages to produce such a huge variety of sounds and textures that he can play very interesting music all by himself. I’ve never written about him here before, but his album of solo guitar Herbie Hancock music is a favorite of mine over the last couple years.
I don’t know much about Hays other than that he sounds great filling in the spaces Loueke leaves for him. This is a very intimate, intricate album that I’m sure would benefit from futher listenings.
Tracks I Liked
Violeta - light and playful
Aziza - meandering but skillful
