Surfing - The Ventures (1963)

Not sure if they’re understanding the quotes in the title as irony, or what. It might just slyly indicate that none of this is surf rock as people understood it. There’s a lot more gloomy pathos and psychedelic verve than most of their peers.

I’ve heard some of these songs hundreds of times, but in an album context you hear more of the nasty energy and not just the cultural baggage of the songs.

Pipeline - Consider that basically the entire drum track from this song is built with the differences in timbre between the hi-hat, ride, and crash cymbals with almost no actual drum. Brilliant
