Lives Outgrown - Beth Gibbons (2024)

ideated from: an inbox quickly filling with new releases I should pay some attention to

Beth Gibbons does what she wants, when she wants. Portishead (o_O), the band that made her famous, haven’t done much in the 2010s, and other than a few one-off features Gibbons herself hasn’t released much music.

But when she does get around to it, she can still make something stunning.

Gibbons by herself doesn’t do the moody trip hop of Portishead. Instead she takes her distinctive voice and creates songs that are both eerie and gorgeous. The soft sounds always have an edge of sadness and restlessness, even though it is overall a very calming sound.
