East and West - Anna Domino (1984)
Domino has a distinctive alto voice and creates some dark and understated music. There’s an 80s new wave component with the bright basslines and programmed drums in places, but there’s a lot of organic energy as well.
The original EP is only six tracks, which are all quite good. The release has since been padded out to album length with some 1987 live tracks that are quite different but of the same quality as the studio tracks.
Tracks I Liked
With The Day Comes The Dawn - choppy but cool
Land Of My Dreams - a cover of an Aretha Franklin song I didn’t know about. Franklin’s wistful soul becomes a lament here.
Trust In Love - a rumbling little pop tune
