The Impressions were a big part of Chicago soul in the 60s, and Mayfield was a big part of that band.
This is a live date from the beginning of his solo career, mixing some of his new material with the Impressions tunes.
A tiny club and a tight band make this a fantastic recording. Mayfield has an amazing falsetto-sounding tenor and plays a mean, funky guitar even when his vocals are sweet.
