Excello Singles Anthology - Slim Harpo (1957-1966)

Slightly rock-oriented Louisiana-via-Nashville delta blues. Harpo had a number of big jukebox hits, and was a big part of the Rolling Stones’ obsession with the blues. He played guitar and harmonica, and played them well. Some of the latter end of this collection features a horn section and a much more country funk sound, which is great too.

His first big hit and signature song was I’m A King Bee, which led to derivative titles about bees and buzzing for the rest of his career.

One of the most successful blues artists of the late 60s, he sadly had the run cut short when he died of a heart attack at age 46.

This is a nice package of a lot of his most fun and most famous.
