La Di Da Di - Battles (2015)

Battles is led by Ian Williams–late of instro-rock outfit Don Caballero–and John Stanier, drummer on one of the most glorious head-bashing albums ever made.

Their earlier album Mirrored is a classic and probably their best-known, but it is heavily influenced by then-member Tyondai Braxton–avant garde composer and guitarist who seemed to put his own stamp on the rest of the band. This one is from after Braxton parted ways, and you can see that Williams and Stanier have their own well-defined ideas.

There’s a lot of tight groove on this record, with shimmering textures and great interplay.

Tracks I Liked

FF Bada - probably the best statement of all the band can do

Summer Simmer - a great pop-noise blast
