Empty Glass - Pete Townshend (1980)
Lots of people release “crack up” albums–introspective examinations of a life at a low point.
Townshend has several, and because he’s so psycholocically layered they’re all kind of terrifying. This one was after his bandmate Keith Moon died in 1978. You can listen to him start to deal with himself and put himself back together.
Tracks I Liked
Rough Boys - homoerotic undertones of the rock n roll lifestyle? That’s how I read it
I Am An Animal - Townshend self-examination at its best
Jools and Jim - a takedown of a pair of journalists who’d bashed Keith pretty hard for his wild lifestyle
A Little Is Enough - heartfelt, tender, horny, and a little psychotic
