Biotop - Jizue (2023)

If you’re the kind of guy who likes to know exactly what genre of music you’re listening to, Jizue will drive you nuts.

I wrote these guys up once before and was apparently just as confused then as to how to approach them.

There’s definitely the easy melodicism and groove-first energy of British style modern jazz. There’s the melody floating over a cloud of smoke like you get in post rock. The time-signature-averse start and stop drumming gives it a prog feel as well.

Whatever it is, it’s excellent.
