Pablo Honey - Radiohead (1993)

Discog-ology: Going through an artist’s albums, or at least the ones I haven’t written up yet, in order. Hopefully will be about once a week.

Even if you were only interested in British rock in 1993, there were still major records from Suede, Blur, PJ Harvey, and James to process, each offering more than this record had to offer. And that’s not to mention the previous generation of British bands still active: The Mekons, The Fall, and The Jam’s Paul Weller all had albums out as well.

So onto this scene comes a record that, at best, might be a bookend on the jangly Madchester sound. The songs are fine. “Creep” is a fantastic track, but so was “Something Good” by Utah Saints from the same era, and how did that work out for them?

Radiohead didn’t seem poised to conquer the world from here, but they had a lot of ambition and a growing amount of vision. They’d soon unlock their full potential.

Next: The Bends, which is already here and I don’t have much more to say about it.

Tracks I Liked

Creep - honestly, the only song worth listening to on here.
