San Francisco Moog 1968-1972 - Doug McKechnie (2020)

Moog synthesizers were spectacularly expensive when they first came out. The only people who bought them were the rich, the famous, and institutions like universities and studios.

McKechnie got access to one of the first Moogs ever made when a roommate electronic engineer convinced his father to buy it.

He quickly saw that electronic music didn’t have to be austere and weird, but could just be music.

He played and recorded all over the Bay area, bringing synthesized music to the people.

The music here is quite engrossing, all played live by layering synth patches on top of one another and eventually (sometimes in a roundabout way) resolving into recognizable rhythm and melody.

Highly recommended. If you’re into it, there’s an expanded version avaliable as well.
