Vulnicura - Bjork (2015)

A YT video on Bjork’s discography was what initially gave me the idea to do the “discog-ology” thread I’ve been doing with Radiohead. I’m not sure that I have enough to say about Bjork to dedicate a couple months of Mondays to her, and I’m not even sure what counts as a discography since she has multiple versions of most of her releases.

So I put this one on the list and called it good.

This one doesn’t have a ton of the trademark challenging art rock of some of her more famous records, but there is a lot here. Her lyrics are always deeply personal but in a way that seems universal. The music is more understated than it often is.

The power comes from her complete confidence and command of what she wants to project into your head. A really amazing feat.

Tracks I Liked

Black Lake - like a lot of her work, it’s creepy, beautiful, and a bit angry all at once.

Family - builds from very pleasant beginnings to a whiplashing powerhouse

Atom Dance - a really unique experience
