Sympathy For Life - Parquet Courts (2021)

Parquet Courts are the poster children for unrestrained NYC hipster rock. That doesn’t mean they’re not good.

The band’s sound has varied quite a bit from one release to another. This is a groove- and beat-heavy sound based on jam sessions that were then reconstructed in post.

There’s a lot of trance-y, dance-y rhythm that would make Stone Roses proud, as well as a pretty funky attack on a lot of the tracks.

This is their last album at the time of this writing, 4 years later. I wasn’t able to find anything on whether they’re still an ongoing concern, but I hope to hear more from them.

Tracks I Liked

Black Widow Spider - a straight-ahead rocker

Marathon of Anger - robo-funky

Plant Life - a stomping good 2 minute song, which is unfortunately stuck inside a 6 minute track
